WONDER is an interactive audio installation about a boy who is not considered “normal” because no one sees him that way.
WONDER is inspired by the book of the same name by R.J. Palacio. This moving story follows August Pullman, a boy born with a severe facial difference. He tries his best not to stand out, but people are often startled when they see him; they stare or look away.
During WONDER, you experience life from August’s perspective. At twelve years old, he attends a regular school for the first time. August fears he won’t be accepted—and he’s right. But there’s one girl, Summer, who isn’t put off by his appearance, and a classmate, Jack, who also becomes his friend. You hear his friends’ voices and even read aloud as his classmates ignore and begin to bully him.
WONDER is for and by everyone aged 12 and up.
WONDER is a co-production by ShELFISH and Grand Theatre Groningen in collaboration with ELKER Youth Care and Education.
WONDER is made financially possible by Grand Theatre, Gemeente Groningen, Fonds 21, Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie, Beringer Hazewinkel.
